The Work Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation and independent authority providing advice, consultancy and research on the future of work, improving the quality of working life, leadership, economic and organisational effectiveness.
To coincide with the creation of the Big Innovation Centre, The Work Foundation asked for our help to streamline their logo, invigorate their identity and redesign their existing website. Part of the brief was that we needed to align the two organisation's visual identities. The Work Foundation and the Big Innovation Centre needed to feel very much part of the same family yet retain their own separate voices.
To do this, we developed the style of illustration and photography we'd established for the Big Innovation Centre, and built upon the design structure we'd put in place for the Big Innovation Centre website.
As well as integrating rich media, social media feeds and data visualisation modules, an events portal, reports area and blog, The Work Foundation website has a handy partnership area where partners can log in and customise their unique 'dashboard' page with reports, events and downloads pertinent to them.
The structure of the site is designed around a 'liquid layout' meaning that the pages are able to restructure themselves depending on whether the site is being viewed on a desktop computer, tablet or mobile. Content is presented in such a way as to allow for easy cross-linking between relevant areas which encourages the browse-ability of the site.
The design of the site needed to present the wealth of content in a logical and intuitive manner, but never compromising search engine friendliness. It is underpinned by a powerful content management system (CMS) which allows the administrators a high degree of control over a rich library of different page templates.
