Client: Transport API
Transport API is Britain’s first comprehensive open platform for transport solutions. They secure open data feeds from key industry sources such as Traveline, Network Rail and TfL and package it up as APIs for use by web and app developers for travel apps, portals, hyperlocal sites and business analytics.
They offer nationwide timetable, departure and infrastructure information for schedules, live departures and archived services running across all transport modes. Their APIs are currently being used by Citymapper, Elgin, Network Rail and the Greater London Authority.
We designed a website for them to present their product and communicate its features and benefits, and showcase real-world examples. Because the audience for the site would range from technically-minded individuals to management teams, we had to communicate the product in an engaging way and try to steer clear of overly-technical jargon. If we, the designers, didn’t understand the terminology, we couldn’t assume the site’s audience would.
So as well as designing a site that had to work across mobile, tablet and desktop devices, our role in this project was in part to guide Transport API on how best to communicate their fantastic product to an eager and wide-ranging audience. This project followed on from the design of the Transport API app.
